Run & Swim Torquay, Devon

Torquay is a coastal town located on the eastern side of the United Kingdoms South Western point. It is also referred to as the "English Riviera" due to its mild climate and palm tree covered coastline.
So the question is, with superior climate, a beautiful coastline, and palm trees... What is there to do in this place? I'm so glad you asked. First off, swimming. The water, unlike most of the coast across the UK, was crystal clear! Although it was cold, swimming appeared to be a very core part of the local morning routine. Shortly followed by a delicious cup of coffee from one of the bay's many coffee shops. I may not have joined the locals for an icy dip, but you can bet I fell amongst thieves at the coffee stops.
Meeting the swimmers at the coffee shops each and every morning were the coastal runners. Whether it be the sand, promenade, or road, these runners tackled all terrain, making the most of the beautiful Easter weekend weather. As someone that grew up in Durban, a town on the coast of South Africa, it was great to be amongst the active coastal community again. Something about the fresh sea air and warm morning sun get's a town awake and moving earlier than the rest.
One can't visit Torquay without mentioning the vibrant nightlife. The marina, coast and high street are littered with loads of themed restaurants to get stuck into. My personal favourite was the Otto. Great pizza, beer and cocktails to enjoy while watching the sun set and the bright, multi-coloured lights liven up the dark marina.
If you're in the Devon area, or just looking for a coastal getaway. Do yourself a favour and add Torquay to your list. You won't regret it.
