Sitting in the Pyrenees at between 1500m-2500m is the cozy mountain side village of Arinsal. This little Catalan village is known widely for it's consistent snow, family friendly slopes, and great apres ski during the winter season.

Just a 4 hour bus ride from Barcelona airport, Arinsal is connected via cable car with the Pal ski area. Together they boast 63km of pisted slopes for visitors to enjoy. If you're a competent skier/boarder, Arinsal's "La Capa" is a must do. Only a short distance from the top chair lift, riders can drop in from "La Capa", or "The Layer" (of snow), and tear down 550 meters of untouched snow to meet the other red slopes.

Arinsal has a very long ski season, starting in December and only ending in mid-April. I spent a week in late March where it dumped 20cm of snow over a day, and while the weather was intense, the powder day that followed was worth it. We were quite unlucky, as the Arinsal mountain was closed for two of the days due to the wind. However, a 10 minute bus ride lands you in Pal, which is known for being much better protected from wind. Even in the extreme conditions of 60km wind gusts, Pal slopes held their own and the skiing was great.

Onto everyones favourite part of skiing, apres. Arinsal has a wide range of apres bars with great vibes, and flowing drinks. The Derby was a standout. Friendly staff and a traditional Catalan building meets Irish pub setting makes for the perfect place to settle in for the night. It's important to remember, if you think you saw me there... no you didn't.

After a day full of skiing, and an afternoon full of fun, it's time for some tasty grub. There is no place better than "El Moli", trust me. Fantastic food, both traditional and international, and a cozy setting to grow roots in for the night. I'd go back just to have their ribs and chips!

Anyways, until next time Arinsal.
