Faerie Glen Nature Reserve

Hartebeestpoort 362-Jr, Pretoria

Faerie Glen Nature Reserve was originally part of the farm Hartbeespoort, owned by Mr H Struben. In 1973, the land was handed over to the former City Council of Pretoria to be used as a public open space. The Bronberg ridge, which forms the core of the reserve, was classified as a critically endangered ecosystem by the Minister of Environmental Affairs in 2011. Two vegetation types described by Mucina and Rutherford (2006) are found in the valley: Gold Reef Mountain Bushveld and Marikana Thornveld. The Marikana Thornveld is considered an endangered ecosystem by the Gauteng C Plan, which contributed to the official proclamation of the reserve in 2014.
